Wooden Dummy Freestyle

Sifu Dan uses the Wing Chun Dummy (freestyle) with no set patterns, applying Wing Chun concepts to the training. It is associated with the martial art of Wing Chun and other kung fu styles of Southern China.

Wing Chun Wooden Dummy Techniques for Beginners

Training on the Wing Chun Wooden Dummy is ideal for all levels of Wing Chun students, including beginners or new starters. This is because Wooden Dummy offers the opportunity to train with a human structure in relation to Wing Chun movement.

Wing Chun students should train on the Wooden Dummy in order to enhance their basic hand-leg coordination and conditioning of their forearms/shins. New students should practice turning drills using the four basic hand shapes (Bong, Taan, Gaan, Jum Sao) as taught on the Wooden Dummy.

Wing Chun is well known for its unique structures, simultaneous blocking and striking, trapping, rapid vertical punches, a focus on using the shortest distance between two points, and a strategy that includes controlling the center with constant forward pressure. Many of the concepts and techniques work very well in self defense, but unfortunately the way they're most commonly taught and trained makes wing chun ineffective for both sport fighting and self defense.

Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do the straight lead

The leading straight punch is the backbone of all punching in Jeet Kune Do. It is used both as an offensive and defensive weapon to “stop” and “intercept” an opponent’s complex attack at a moment’s notice. When you are standing right foot forward, your right punch and right leg become the main offensive weapons because of their advanced position. When fighting, keep your strongest side up front.

But the training also endows you with numerous other skills and abilities.
